ABOUT
THE BARN
The
barn was built in 1896. Originally it served as a shelter for livestock
and storage of crops. It served it’s past owners very well
and
they in turn kept it preserved. This barn has been in my family for the
past four decades. I love this barn. Yes, I can say I stacked hay up to
it’s rafters and did less glamorous farm work below. But,
today I
can share it with you as a truly comfortable Bed & Breakfast.
The
barn’s Post and Beam Construction is visible throughout the
Inn.
Hand-carved wooden pegs are exposed to show how the structure is held
together. Every room has exposed beam work left in it’s
reconstruction design. You can even see where the loggers drilled and
tied the log floats together when they floated the logs down the
Mississippi. Hand quarried native limestone was used for the
foundation. The craftsman hand laid the foundation. Can you image
building this barn today? UFF DA! Though the barn's purpose has changed
many times over it's long lifetime, it has always been an intricate
part of farm life. Please come and share it's comfort as aguest of Our
Tara Inn.
